Nanaimo Hare Scramble information. / Forum
Maybe the MTB riders can take a day off and we can have another first-class VIHSS race. Give a little, get a little.
The moto heads were probably the first ones to make the trails in the area anyway,
My 2bits for the weekend.
just wanted to let everyone know..the nanaimo track is off limits to anyone without a valid track pass.these can be purchased at various lcations .go to nanaimomx.com for more info..the trails in the area around the track are open to the public though...i dont want to get in trouble with the club before the upcoming event...thanks for your coopertion....there will be a fun day on the sat of the event for people wishing to preride the course...
a friend and i have been doing a little trail building on wed eves.if you show up a tad before 6 outside the moto track and see rider(s) on gasgas bikes that should be us.while it would be nice for the mtn bike users to get along with us,it only takes one to create a lot of bad feelings, thats why we have been trying to make trails specific to our type of riding
hahaha oh chris. So since chris(fishlegs has joined us in our forum area for the Nanaimo hare scramble race, he is the leader of this race. This is his race and he deserves the respect of all of us who are willing to help with the race. He has organized atleast 10 races now and they always turn out very well. So Chris, you lead, and we will follow,,,, with a chain saw. Or stakes...
I know most offroad guys want an offroad orientated race, but the big reason why I wanted a few of the races at moto tracks was to bring in some moto heads into the offroad world. If it is too technical and mostly trail, theyll probably be scared away and just stick to track.
Campbell river was not at all moto friendly and everyone knows Tansky is just chaotic. Pretty much every race is very tight. So myself, I am happy with a fast moto race. I am still willing to get in there to reclaim or build some new trail because I see the potential in this area. I am going to find out about land access for future also.
Hey fishlegs, the ball is in your court! Take your best shot.Maybe you can put on a Fishlegs Moto Head course to tune up us single-trackers.Always wanted to try a huge step down.
Pin it To win it.
I am sure it will be a blast.
Did not see you at Tansky, you missed a sweet ride.
well hopefully chris can make it out see what we have been working on , and if it fits into his format.fwiw hopefully people will still have an intrest in building a longer trail system there, and if its not a race course we can easily make it more technical to challenge the enduro racers
Husaberg no need kickstart- only start once at beginning of ride- husaberg never quit running- huaberg only BBRRAAAP.
Chris let us know when you are heading up, Paul and I are planning on taking th trailer and spending some weekends there working.
you guys need to do something other than typing on a computer ....i guess thats what im doing right now..oh yah ..im a trail squid too...i already scoped out the joint and would like to get together with some other trail cutting tards as to where and why ..im game to meet up soon.im thinkin tomorrow then go swimming.as to the berg questions...its the only bike ive loved so much and hated so much in the same minute....kinda sounds like marriage...well im filing for divorce...hey jarrett ..when you get close to a phone booth call me,collect if need be...
I can be out there this week one night. Whatever works best for you. I have talking to some companies and have put together something with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nanaimo. I have a sponsorship letter package put in place for the race with some companies already donating $500.00 to BBBS organiztion. I think we will have a great turn out for this race and the sponsorship is looking promising. I will have a poster out when I have all the sponsors organized.
Word on the street is The Charlie horse is going to be a fun filled weekend. Kids racing saturday at noon, a team relay shortly after and the possible chance of having and endurocross track and having heats.(That would be cool eh!) Then sunday B riders race in the a.m. and A riders in the afternoon! There will be derbys ALL WEEKEND!
just an update..lots of work being done at the moto track.going to be a blast..using the entire track(safely for those afraid of moto)and 3 new sections of single track...heres some names of the trails being worked on.1-KAOS- a tight twisty single track section guaranteed to disorient anyone.-Carnage canal(a loop)-.a steep off-camber downhill section dropped into the infamous nanaimo crack and back out again, hopefully without any cling-ons .2-midway-.named appropriately(working on).3- last ditch effort-.final trail winding in and out of a future mudhole and your last chance to pass your moto buddy before heading back into hte open stuff...
course(from what I got from Chris) will not be arrowed and mark until probably the friday b4 the race. Racers pre ride will be entering the team relay on saturday. Which, remember is 2 racers on a team and only 1 bike!
Anyone can ride the trail b4 the race, but expect a curve ball or two before race day!
I would like there to be, but it might be tough to get it done with the time we have. Will need to have a small excavator at the least to help put it together. If there was somewhere that we could find some bigger sized logs and some tractor tires( there are some tires at the track that maybe they would let us use).
Another thing that could work for an endurocross obstacle is those big spools that hold big electrical wiring. Have 4 of those lined up beside each other.
Hey all Harescramblers, had a little preview of the CHARLIE-HORSE over the weekend.
This is going to be a really FUN race with good opportunities for some fun close racing.
Course has a little bit of everything, sure to put a grin on your face.
You dont want to miss this one, great areas to bring out family and friends to cheer on their home-boy.
See you there!
Jarrett and / or Chris ,I have grabbed all the banners and the trail signs too, Do you want them brought up Saturday morning?
Andy
I have about 8-10 gigs of GoPro video from the Charlie Horse up for grabs if anyone is making their own video. There is footage from both A and B races. Mostly low shots, sorry no good crashes as you guys are getting too good!
Video will be available for transfer at the Trick or Treat from the JR toybox
Bikesmith has invited us to the Trick or Treat to create another video for Campbell River MX... see ya there...arrrrrr

Forum for the Nanaimo hare scramble race held on October 16th, 2011. Discussing course lay out, trail work days, and much more. There is alot of potential around the Wastelands. Key is to not get in the way of mtn bikers and everything should go well.
