Getting ready for The Crown Royale!

Getting ready for The Crown Royale!

It is just about time to go racing again!! Round 6 is just 5 short days away where we will head back to Whiskey Creek for the Crown Royale Moto Hare Scramble. The race organizers have put forth another great course for this year and right now the conditions are supreme! Get ready for some new trail, all your old favorites, and some re opened trails that most have never ridden before.

Racers can sign up from 8-10:30 a.m. , a short riders meeting at 10:45 then off you all go at 11 a.m. sharp! The "A" riders will head out on the Royale KTM arrowed loop while the "B" riders will go the opposite direction and rip up the Crown Gas Gas arrowed loop. The B riders will race with an 1 hr cut off while the A racers will be racing with a 1.5 hr cut off. The Crown loop is fast is shorter than the Royale loop, which will give for faster lap times but most likely more intense racing. The Royale loop heads into the roller coaster area at WHiskey, then off to a new trail called "Mid Island Collision Course". Just made in the last 2 months! Make sure you don't "collide" with any obstacles in there. The Royale is approx. 30 min. in length and will take a good A rider around 30 minutes to complete one lap. A riders should count on doing 3 laps and B riders will do 2 then will be cut off as their time will be complete. Senior Experts race the same course as the rest of the "A" racers, but only have an hour cut off time for both motos All racers will be done the first moto by 12:45.

We will quickly get the course mended up and ready to go for a moto 2 start time of 1 p.m. sharp! All racers will be done moto 2 at 2:45 or less. Once everyone is in we will post the results from both motos. If there are no complaints we will tally the two moto scores together and give racers their overall placement for the day. Remember, it's like motocross, if you go 1-2 on the day but your opponent goes 2-1 he or she wins because whoever does better in moto 2 wins. The pointing system is as normal: 30 pts for 1st, 25 for 2nd, 21 for 3rd, etc. etc. If you go 1-1 on the day you have 60 points, but for the VIHSS points standings you are credited for 1 first which equals 30 points. Hope that makes sense.

There is 80 awesome looking shirts to give out for the race, so get to the race early to sign up and you will for sure get one!! We have a racer percentage cash purse happening at this years Crown Royale. We know for sure we can give out $40 back to first place in each class and $20 for 2nd. If we have a great racer turn out for the race we can double the cash purse and give back even more! Only thanks to Mid Island Collision for being this years Crown Royale Moto Hare Scramble event sponsor!!

On another note, one of our fellow racer/rider/ good friend has suffered a heart attack less than 2 weeks ago and is still in the Hospital. Clint Heine is trying to make a full recovery and is staying positive. He could use our help in bringing him back to full health. We will be donating all proceeds from the event to Clint, as he is a man with his own business and like some of us doesn't have full coverage. Clint has spent many hours helping make, clear and maintain the trail at Whiskey Creek and is just one of those guys you always like to have around and be around. We will have a 50/50 draw for him as well on race day. Get well Clint! We are all thinking of you!

Lastly, Jarrett May would like to offer out to all the young trail racers a race preperation day. May knows Whiskey Creek like the back of his hand and wants to show the young stars of tomorrow how he makes going fast easy. He would like to teach racing techniques such as :

  • good cornering techniques
  • how to ride roots correctly (fast)
  • Line choices (there may be a better line)
  • Jumping logs to gain momentum
  • using whoops and breaking bumps to your advantage.

If there is enough interest  he would like to have  a 14 and under class  all together and a seperate 15-25 year old class.  There is no charge , just come on out to Whiskey this Saturday and Jarrett will take you out on the loops to show you these racing techniques.   The first class will start at 12 ( noon) .  That is this saturday , October 4th.  You can email him at  that you would like to attend.

That's it for now, check back for more additional information!
